Three people died and 3 were injured after a suspect opened fire at a bowling alley in Illinois.

A suspect was arrested following the shooting at the Don Carter Lanes bowling alley in Rockford, Illinois, on the evening of December 26, police chief Dan O'Shea said at a press conference the same day, adding that the two

"When the police arrived at the scene, the shooter was still in the building," said O'Shea.

O’Shea did not provide more information about the victim nor the suspect.

Police said some people were shot outside the building, others were shot inside.

The shooting is believed to be a random attack and the state prosecutor's office is conducting an investigation.
